What do Tesla's Q3 2026 earnings mean for Canada? Tesla earnings for Q3 2026 came out on October 21. Revenue was flat at US$28.0 billion. Profit fell, but it still beat forecasts. Tesla says it set a record for deliveries in Canada. For buyers, the bigger news is the cheap Model 3 pause and the rebate rules.

Key takeaways

Tesla earnings: the main numbers

Here are the Tesla Q3 2026 figures from Tesla's own update. All are in U.S. dollars.

Item Q3 2026 Change from Q3 2025
Total revenue $28.0 billion About flat
Car revenue $20.6 billion Down 3%
Energy storage revenue $2.9 billion Down 16%
Service and other revenue $4.6 billion Up 33%
Gross margin 19.6% Up 1.6 points
Operating margin 2.6% Down 3.2 points
Net income (GAAP) $787 million Down 43%
Earnings per share (adjusted) $0.48 Down 4%
Free cash flow $1.5 billion Down 62%
Deliveries 486,532 Down 2%

Analysts polled by LSEG expected 43 cents a share and US$27.9 billion in sales, CNBC reports. So Tesla beat both.

Why did profit fall? Tesla says it spent a lot more on AI, robots and research. It also sold cars at a lower average price. It earned less from selling credits to other carmakers. Tesla also says battery supply held back how many cars it could build.

What happened to TSLA stock

TSLA stock moved both ways after the bell on October 21. CNBC reported a drop of more than 3% in extended trading. The Wall Street Journal later reported a gain of about 1.2% after hours. CNBC also says the stock is down 14% this year.

Record Tesla Canada deliveries

Tesla says it set record quarterly deliveries in several markets, including Canada. It did not give a number for Canada.

I am not surprised. The cheap Model 3 came in at $39,490 in May. That price was low for a Tesla. Canada's new deal with China let Shanghai-built EVs in at a 6.1% tariff, under a yearly cap of 49,000 cars. Tesla builds the Model 3 in Shanghai, so it could use that deal fast.

Our guide to the cheapest electric cars in Canada and the Chinese EVs coming shows how that price compares.

The cheap Model 3 is paused in Canada

In mid-October, Tesla stopped taking orders for the Model 3 Premium in Canada. Both the $39,490 RWD and the $49,990 AWD are paused. Tesla's site says the cars ran out of import quota. It says orders may come back in March 2027 if Ottawa gives more quota.

Driving.ca and iPhone in Canada both point out a problem with that story. Federal data shows lots of room left under the 49,000 car cap. But the public data does not list carmakers. So we can not say who is right.

Right now, the only Model 3 you can order in Canada is the Performance, at $74,990, made in the U.S.

Tesla Canada prices and rebates

These are Tesla Canada's listed MSRPs, before freight, fees and tax. Our Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y pages have full specs.

Model MSRP Can it get the federal rebate?
Model 3 Premium RWD (paused) $39,490 No, built in China
Model 3 Premium AWD (paused) $49,990 No, built in China
Model 3 Performance $74,990 No, over $50,000
Model Y RWD $49,990 Yes, if the final price stays at $50,000 or less
Model Y Premium AWD $64,990 No, over $50,000

Transport Canada says the federal EVAP rebate is up to $5,000 in 2026. It drops to $4,000 in 2027. The final price must be $50,000 or less, and China-built EVs do not qualify.

Watch your options on a Model Y RWD. Add paint or bigger wheels and you can pass $50,000. Then you lose the rebate.

In Manitoba, Teslas do not get the provincial rebate. Our EV rebates by province guide has the full list.

Tariffs, trade and the Canada auto plan

Trade rules shape Tesla prices here. The Shanghai Model 3 came in under the 6.1% tariff deal with China. The new Canada and Ontario plan also freezes emissions rules for new cars. Read our Canada Ontario auto plan story to see what it means for EV supply.

FSD and robotaxi: what Canadians get

Tesla says over 75% of new cars in North America now come with FSD (Supervised). Active FSD subscriptions hit 1.74 million around the world. FSD (Supervised) still needs a driver who is watching the road at all times.

Tesla started Robotaxi rides with the Cybercab in Austin, Texas, on September 3. The Cybercab has two seats and is not sold to the public, CNBC reports. Elon Musk said on the call that the robotaxi fleet should add to profit in 2027.

None of this has a Canadian launch date. Tesla gave no plan for Robotaxi in Canada.

Superchargers

Tesla now has 8,904 Supercharger stations and 84,465 stalls around the world, up 14% in a year. Tesla did not give a count for Canada.

For Canadian drivers, cold is the bigger issue than stall count. A cold battery charges slower. Our EV winter range guide shows how much range you lose in the cold.

My take for buyers

I have watched Tesla prices in Canada move up and down for years. This quarter tells me three things.

First, demand in Canada is strong. Tesla says so with its record. Second, the cheapest Tesla is gone for now, so do not plan on $39,490. Third, the Model Y RWD is the Tesla to look at if you want the rebate. Keep it under $50,000 and buy before January 1 to get the full $5,000.

If you need a car this winter, do not wait for the Model 3 to come back. March 2027 is a hope from Tesla, not a promise.
