The 2027 Toyota bZ is now on sale at Toyota dealers across Canada, Toyota Canada announced on August 17, 2026. The compact electric SUV carries over the big upgrades it received last year, when it dropped the bZ4X name. For 2027, the focus is on making charging easier, and pricing starts at $45,985 MSRP.

Here is what you need to know about Toyota's mainstream electric SUV for the 2027 model year.

What's new for 2027: adapters in the box

The headline change for 2027 is simple but welcome. Every bZ now comes with CCS and J1772 charging adapters.

That matters because the bZ uses the North American Charging System (NACS) port, the same plug standard used by Tesla's Supercharger network. NACS gives bZ drivers access to most high-speed chargers in North America. Many public chargers in Canada, and plenty of home and workplace Level 2 stations, still use the older J1772 and CCS connectors. Last year, 2026 bZ owners could order a Toyota-approved adapter through their dealer to use those. Now the adapters come with the vehicle, so you can plug in almost anywhere from day one.

Toyota describes the result as charging that is "more flexible and convenient than ever before," at home, at work or on the road.

Two powertrains, three grades

The 2027 bZ lineup has three grades built around two battery-electric powertrains:

  • bZ XLE (front-wheel drive): a 57.7 kWh battery, 168 system horsepower and up to 380 km of range.
  • bZ XLE AWD: a 77 kWh battery, 338 system horsepower and up to 468 km of range.
  • bZ Limited AWD: the same 77 kWh, 338-hp powertrain with more luxury and driver-assistance features.

The 468 km figure for the XLE AWD is the longest range in the lineup. When Toyota launched the 2026 model, it said that figure was 25 per cent more than the outgoing AWD model's 367 km. For the 2026 Limited AWD, which rides on larger 20-inch wheels, Toyota's estimate was 436 km.

All-wheel-drive models get X-Mode with Grip Control, Multi-Terrain Select, Downhill Assist and Crawl Control, plus roof rails.

Standard equipment worth knowing about

Even the base XLE is generously equipped. Every 2027 bZ includes:

  • A 14-inch Toyota Multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Safety Connect, Service Connect, Remote Connect and Drive Connect.
  • Two-zone automatic climate control and 64-colour ambient lighting, front and rear.
  • A heated SofTex-clad steering wheel with paddle shifters, which on the bZ adjust regenerative braking.
  • Dual wireless phone chargers, three USB charging ports, SiriusXM and a digital key.
  • A power back door with kick sensor and a reclining front passenger seat.
  • Bi-LED projector headlights, heated power-folding mirrors and rain-sensing wipers with de-icers, which Canadian drivers will appreciate.

Cargo space is 784 L behind the 60/40 split-folding rear seats, and Toyota says the cabin has room for five adults.

Safety

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on every grade. So are eight airbags, a rear seat reminder, a backup camera with Back Guide Monitor, and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Safe Exit Assist. The XLE also includes Parking Support Brake and a driver monitor camera.

The Limited adds Advanced Park, the Panoramic View Monitor, a digital rear-view mirror, a rear camera washer, Traffic Jam Assist and Lane Change Assist.

Pricing

Grade MSRP Estimated vehicle price
bZ XLE $45,985 $49,067
bZ XLE AWD $53,405 $56,487
bZ Limited AWD $61,685 $64,767

Toyota's estimated vehicle price includes freight and PDI, the A/C charge and maximum dealer and other fees, but not taxes, licence, insurance or registration. Compared with the 2026 model, prices are essentially flat: the XLE is $5 cheaper, the XLE AWD $15 more and the Limited AWD $5 less. Our price guide looks at each grade in more detail.

Where the bZ fits in Toyota's lineup

The bZ is one of three battery-electric models Toyota offers in Canada, alongside 15 hybrids and two plug-in hybrids. Steve Pilkey, Toyota Canada's vice-president of sales and marketing, describes it as part of a "multi-pathway approach" that lets buyers choose the powertrain that best fits their needs.

In practice, the bZ is the family-sized option among Toyota's EVs. The smaller C-HR electric starts just under it on price, and the more rugged bZ Woodland rounds out the trio.

Should you buy one?

If you passed on the bZ because of charging worries, the 2027 model removes one more hurdle. NACS access to Superchargers combined with included CCS and J1772 adapters means you are no longer tied to one network. With range up to 468 km, a heat pump and a battery preconditioning system for faster cold-weather charging, it is also better suited to Canadian winters than the original bZ4X.

The front-drive XLE is the value play at under $46,000 MSRP. Most buyers who face snowy roads or long highway drives will want to look at the XLE AWD, which brings twice the power and the longest range for $7,420 more.
