Ford Bronco recall in Canada: engine wiring harness could cause a fire
Updated October 13, 2026. Transport Canada has published recall 2026356 for certain Ford Bronco vehicles from the 2021 to 2026 model years. On these vehicles the engine wiring harness may not have enough protection and could short circuit, which creates a fire risk. Here is what the recall says, which vehicles it covers and what owners should do.
What is the problem?
Transport Canada says that "on certain vehicles, the engine wiring harness may not have enough protection and could become damaged by contact with surrounding components. As a result, the wiring harness could short circuit." The safety risk it lists is that a short circuit can create the risk of a fire.
The recall is classed as Vehicle – Electrical. Its Transport Canada ID is 2026356 and its Government of Canada identification number is RA-82430. It was first published on July 20, 2026 and last updated on July 30, 2026.
Which Broncos are affected?
The recall notice lists the Ford Bronco for these model years:
- 2021 Ford Bronco
- 2022 Ford Bronco
- 2023 Ford Bronco
- 2024 Ford Bronco
- 2025 Ford Bronco
- 2026 Ford Bronco
The notice covers "certain vehicles", so not every Bronco from those years is included. Driving.ca reported that the campaign covers about 36,061 Broncos in Canada, including the Bronco Raptor, and that Ford expects only a small share of them to have the defect. Driving.ca also reported that Ford's recall code for this campaign is 26S55.
The Bronco Sport is a different vehicle and is not listed in recall 2026356.
What will Ford do?
Transport Canada says Ford will notify owners by mail. Owners will be asked to take the vehicle to a dealer, where the dealer will install additional protection on the engine wiring harness and repair or replace the harness as necessary. Safety recall repairs are done at no cost to the owner.
Warning signs to watch for
Driving.ca reported that owners should look out for a smoky smell from the air vents, warning messages on the dashboard, or flames from the passenger side of the engine compartment. If you notice smoke, a burning smell or any sign of fire, stop in a safe place, turn off the engine, get everyone out and call 911. Do not keep driving.
How to check if your Bronco is included
- Find your 17-character VIN. It is on the driver side of the dashboard (visible through the windshield), on the driver door jamb and on your registration and insurance documents.
- Search the VIN in Transport Canada's Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database or on Ford Canada's owner site.
- Call a Ford dealer with your VIN and recall number 2026356 (Ford code 26S55).
- When Ford's letter arrives, book the repair.
If you bought your Bronco used, the recall still applies, because recalls follow the vehicle, not the owner. Keep your address current with your provincial vehicle registry so the notice reaches you.
If you are shopping for a Bronco
A recall alone is not a reason to avoid a model, but it is a reason to check:
- Ask the dealer to print the recall status for the exact VIN.
- On a used Bronco, ask for proof that the 26S55 repair was completed.
- Compare trims and prices on our 2026 Ford Bronco Canada guide, and see every current notice on Vehonix Recalls.
